The Mexico Market Report
What’s happening in the market
Higher market volume, tighter market capacity. Two weeks after the tariff reversal, cross-border capacity has redistributed. Laredo has softened as carriers chase higher-paying freight elsewhere. The corridors picking up the slack — El Paso/Juárez and Hidalgo — are the ones to watch this week.
What this means for you: If your freight is going through Laredo, the old playbook needs a refresh — more lead time, tighter posting details, and sharper target rates. If you’ve never posted El Paso or Hidalgo freight before, now is the week to try. And if you’re moving freight within Mexico, capacity is deep almost everywhere.
How to win freight in this market
Capacity is redistributing. The brokers winning this week are the ones who keep their posting discipline tight — because where markets are softening, incomplete postings get skipped, and where markets are hot, carriers have options. Here’s what’s working right now:
Post as soon as you own the freight. This matters more in a redistributing market. The more lead time you give carriers, the better your chances — especially in the softening Laredo Bajío lanes. If you’re posting the day before pickup, you’re already behind.
Lead with a competitive target rate. Laredo capacity tightened this week, meaning more freight is available and being offered to carriers. Postings without a target rate — or with a rate clearly below market — get skipped faster than two weeks ago. Include a realistic target that reflects current conditions.
Be specific in your posting details. Carriers want to know exactly what they’re committing to before they bid. Include exact pickup and delivery addresses, commodity type and weight, equipment requirements (dry van, reefer temp, flatbed specs), pickup and delivery windows, any special requirements (TWIC, hazmat, team driver, customs broker info), and border crossing preference if you have one.
Write a real message when you create your posting. When you post, you have the opportunity to include a custom message that goes directly to suggested carriers. Don’t leave it blank. Tell carriers why this load matters, what your volume looks like on this lane, and that you’re ready to move. Carriers can tell the difference between a broker who’s serious and one who’s just fishing.
Respond to every bid — even rejections. Carriers who bid and hear nothing stop bidding. If a rate comes in too high, respond with your target. Carriers who get responses keep quoting. Carriers who get silence move on.
Cross-Border: Northbound through Laredo
Monterrey / Saltillo Metro — 🟢 Strong
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Saltillo, Coah. | Southwest (TX), Southeast (GA, SC, AL), Midwest (IL, MI) |
| Monclova, Coah. | Southwest (TX) — small volume, deep capacity |
Monterrey remains the anchor of the platform — the deepest carrier pool on the map, with coverage into virtually every US region. Saltillo has come off its peak but is still solidly strong. The standout here is Monclova: low volume, but every posting is getting covered. If you’ve got Coahuila Interior freight, it’s worth testing the market this week.
Coahuila Interior & Bajío — 🟡 Moderate
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Irapuato, Gto. | Southwest (TX), Carolinas (NC), Southeast (SC, GA, TN, AL), Midwest (MI, OH) |
| San Luis Potosí, SLP | Southwest (TX), Carolinas (NC), Southeast (SC, GA, TN) |
| León, Gto. | Southeast (SC, GA), Midwest (MI) |
This is where reduced market capacity is most visible. Volume hasn’t dropped — carrier capacity has redistributed. Expect lighter hit rates than two weeks ago, so post earlier and quote accurately. The brokers getting covered here are the ones posting with complete details, competitive rates, and real posting messages. If you’ve been coasting on Bajío lanes, it’s time to tighten your posting discipline.
Guadalajara & Central Mexico — 🟠 Tighter Capacity
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Cuernavaca, Mor. | Southwest (TX), Midwest |
| Tehuacán, Pue. | Southwest (TX), Southeast |
| Cuautitlán Izcalli, Edomex. | Southwest (TX), Southeast |
| Toluca, Edomex. | Southwest (TX) |
High volume, tighter capacity. Guadalajara is the #2 volume origin on the platform but carriers aren’t covering it at the same rate as Monterrey — expect lighter hit rates here. Post earlier, quote accurately, and write a specific, intentional posting message. For CDMX, Puebla, and Toluca, double-check your lead time and target rate before posting. Brokers who keep posting consistently from these markets are building the carrier relationships that compound as capacity expands.
Cross-Border: Southbound into Mexico
South Texas — 🟢 Strong
| Market | Destinations into Mexico |
|---|---|
| Laredo, TX | Norte, Bajío, Centro — all major Mexico markets |
| Houston, TX | Norte (NLE, Coah.), Bajío (Gto., Qro., Ags., SLP), Centro (Pue., Edomex., Hgo., CDMX) |
Southbound Texas is the cleanest corridor on the platform. Cotulla is the hottest short-haul staging lane — freight positioning into border yards is getting covered almost immediately. Houston is notable: a strong southbound origin into the full breadth of Mexico markets, with the deepest reach into the Bajío and Centro. Make sure your Houston postings include customs broker details and border crossing preference.
North Texas & Southeast — 🟢 Strong
| Region | Key Markets |
|---|---|
| North Texas | Dallas, TX |
| Southeast | Atlanta, GA / Huntsville, AL |
| Southeast | Greenville, SC |
Strong southbound carrier positioning from Dallas and the Southeast manufacturing hubs. If you’re shipping from these origins, specify your border crossing preference — it helps carriers plan their route and makes your posting more attractive.
Midwest — 🟡 Moderate
| Region | Key Markets |
|---|---|
| Midwest | Toledo, OH / Fort Wayne, IN / Cincinnati, OH / St. Louis, MO |
| Midwest | Detroit, MI |
| Midwest | Chicago, IL / Green Bay, WI / Gary, IN |
Solid coverage from Midwest manufacturing hubs, with Detroit holding steady on auto-industry southbound volume. Expect lighter hit rates than the hotter corridors — post early, include a clear target rate, and quote accurately. Midwest carriers have options and are selective.
West Coast & Mid-Atlantic — 🟠 Tighter Capacity
| Region | Key Markets |
|---|---|
| West Coast | CA (LA, Fresno) |
| Mid-Atlantic | NJ (Elizabeth) |
| Southeast | Florida (Miami) |
Capacity is tighter from these origins — expect lower hit rates and plan for longer booking windows. Post early, include a competitive rate, and quote accurately to find success. If you’re moving Florida freight southbound, expect to need multiple days of lead time and a premium rate.
El Paso — Juárez — Chihuahua Corridor 🟢 Strong
Freight originating from this corridor
| Market | Context |
|---|---|
| El Paso / Cd. Juárez | Maquiladora surge. Deep, specialized carrier pool. |
| Chihuahua, Chih. | Reliable capacity deeper into the state. |
Freight delivering into this corridor
| Market | Context |
|---|---|
| El Paso / Cd. Juárez | Strong, accelerating southbound coverage — up notably from two weeks ago. |
| Chihuahua, Chih. | Moderate capacity deeper into Chihuahua state. |
El Paso/Juárez outbound is the hottest corridor on the platform — carriers are actively competing for every posting. What’s new this week: southbound freight into the corridor is accelerating as well, up notably from two weeks ago. If you have freight moving into or out of this corridor, you’re in the sweet spot. Include equipment specs, customs broker info, and your target rate — this carrier pool is specialized and rewards complete, well-structured postings.
Hidalgo Crossing (Reynosa / McAllen) 🟢 Strong
| Market | Direction |
|---|---|
| Reynosa, Tamps. | Northbound |
| Monterrey, N.L. (via Hidalgo) | Northbound |
| McAllen, TX | Southbound |
The Hidalgo crossing is one of the quieter strong corridors — lower volume than Laredo but extremely high coverage. If you have Reynosa or eastern Monterrey freight and you’re flexible on crossing, the Hidalgo route is delivering excellent coverage this week.
Otay Mesa / Calexico — Pacific Side 🟢 Strong
| Market | Crossing |
|---|---|
| Tijuana, BCN | Otay Mesa |
| Mexicali, BCN | Calexico East |
The Baja corridor continues to run hot. Tijuana has the highest volume — deep carrier pool, fast bids. Mexicali crosses at Calexico East and runs a touch tighter. If you have Pacific-side freight, post it — you’ll get competitive bids fast.
Your feedback shapes what we cover next week.
Domestic Mexico
Domestic freight within Mexico is the quiet strength story. Capacity is deep across almost every major region, with the Bajío, Norte, and Centro all running in the strong-to-moderate range. Brokers who haven’t posted domestic Mexico freight before should consider testing it this week.
Norte — 🟢 Strong
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Reynosa, Tamps. | Essentially fully covered |
| Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. | Deep capacity, fast bids |
| Monterrey, N.L. | Strong, consistent carrier pool |
| Saltillo, Coah. | Runs softer domestically — tighten posting details |
Norte is covering at the highest rates of any region. The border cities — Juárez, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo — are essentially fully covered. Saltillo is the one soft spot: domestic Saltillo runs well below its northbound coverage. If you have Saltillo-origin domestic freight, post earlier and quote accurately — tighter posting discipline will find success here.
Bajío — 🟢 Strong
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Querétaro, Qro. | Highest-volume domestic origin — deep carrier pool |
| Aguascalientes, Ags. | Strong, reliable capacity |
| Guadalajara, Jal. | Good coverage, not quite Querétaro’s rate |
The Bajío is red hot domestically even as northbound rates have softened — an unusual split. Querétaro is the highest-volume domestic origin on the platform and it’s running strong. Carriers in this region are well-positioned and responsive.
Centro — 🟢 Strong
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Cuernavaca, Mor. | Fully covered |
| Tehuacán, Pue. | Deep capacity |
| Pachuca, Hgo. | Strong, fast response |
| Toluca, Edomex. | Reliable — post with complete details |
| Cuautitlán Izcalli, Edomex. | Good coverage |
| Puebla, Pue. | Moderate — quote accurately |
| Mexico City | Moderate — improved vs. its northbound picture |
Centro capacity is deep — a major shift from the cross-border picture, where this region runs tighter. Mexico City domestic coverage is notably better than its northbound counterpart. If you have freight staying within Centro, capacity is there.
Pacific Coast — 🟡 Moderate
| Market | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Culiacán, Sin. | Deep, specialized carrier pool |
| Mazatlán, Sin. | Moderate — post early, quote accurately |
| Manzanillo, Col. | Tighter capacity; include customs/dray details |
Coverage is reasonable but thinner than the core regions. Culiacán is the standout. For Manzanillo port freight, include all customs and dray details — this is specialized work and rewards complete postings.
