The Mexico 101 Guide

Everything brokers need to find, quote, win, and grow Mexico freight.

Tracking requirements for Mexico freight

Most Mexico freight can run on normal tracking cadences. The exception is high-risk or high-value shipments, which may require tighter check-ins, GPS monitoring, or escorts. Align expectations early and keep tracking requirements proportional to the risk.

What 'normal' tracking looks like

For standard freight, default updates are usually enough:

  • Pickup confirmed
  • Border milestone updates (approaching, crossed)
  • Delivery appointment confirmation and ETA
  • Delivery confirmation

When customers ask for tighter tracking

Some shippers will require extra controls for specific categories, such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, tequila, or high-value automotive components.

Common requirements include:

  • Tracking updates every 2 hours
  • GPS monitoring
  • Security escorts

If your customer asks for 2-hour tracking updates on standard freight, that's their prerogative, but it's not the norm. Have a conversation about what's actually necessary versus what's adding operational overhead for no reason.
