Full truckload, partials and power only for Mexico and Canada freight

Post freight the way it actually moves. On the Cargado posting form, Mode has three choices: Full truckload when the freight gets the whole trailer, Partial truckload (LTL) when it takes part of one, and Power Only when the trailer is already yours and you need a tractor and driver. Carriers on the marketplace bid on all three.

Two questions pick the mode

Answer both and see the mode to pick on the posting form, and what carriers see when you post it. Or jump straight to one of the three.

Who brings the trailer?
How much of the trailer does it need?

No space questionThe trailer is already yours or your shipper's, so the carrier only needs to know the move. That's Power Only.

The whole trailer, the carrier's equipment

Full truckload

The freight gets the whole trailer, and the carrier brings the tractor, the driver and the trailer.

Use it when
The freight needs the whole trailer, even if it is light.
You enter
The stops, the weight and commodity, and every trailer type the freight can go in.
Carriers bid
A price for each part of a cross-border move (Mexico portion, crossing, U.S. portion), or one all-in rate inside one country.

Part of a trailer

Partial truckload (LTL)

The freight shares the trailer. You give carriers its size, and Cargado works out the linear feet it takes.

Use it when
The freight takes part of a trailer: pallets, crates, drums or other units.
You enter
The weight, the Packaging Type and Count, the Dimensions per unit, and whether units are stackable. There is no separate LTL form and no freight class to enter.
Carriers see
How many linear feet it takes, so they can tell whether it fits the space on their truck.

Your trailer, their tractor and driver

Power Only

The carrier brings the tractor and driver and pulls a trailer that is yours or your shipper's, loaded or empty.

Use it when
A loaded trailer is waiting to be hooked, or an empty trailer needs to get somewhere. Drop-and-hook freight, surge capacity and private fleets are common cases.
You enter
One trailer type and a Power Only Type. Pre-loaded: the trailer is already loaded. Load-out: an empty trailer the carrier can haul a load in on the way. Tow-away: an empty trailer that goes straight there. The first and last stops are drop stops.
Carriers see
A power-only posting, clearly marked, in their regular load search.

Light freight that needs the whole trailer is still a Full truckload. Any mode can post as a Load, a Lane, or a Potential Load or Lane for freight you haven't won yet.

One form, three modes

There is no separate LTL form and no separate power-only form. Every mode posts on the same form, and the mode is a separate choice from the posting type: a full truckload, a partial or a power-only move can post as a Load, a Lane, or a Potential Load or Lane. The Mode choice changes only what carriers need to know: the trailer types for a full truckload, the size of the freight for a partial, and the move for power only.

1

Full truckload

The whole trailer. Pick every trailer type the freight can go in, and set who handles the border crossing.

2

Partial truckload (LTL)

Part of a trailer. Enter the units and their size, and Cargado works out the linear feet.

3

Power Only

Your trailer. Pick Pre-loaded, Load-out or Tow-away, and the carrier brings the tractor and driver.

Cargado Market Rates price full truckload freight. Partial and power-only freight isn't priced in Market Rates; post it and carriers bid.

Carriers find the mode they run

Carriers say on their Cargado profile whether they run power only and partial truckload. In Find Freight they filter by Mode, and for partials they can set the most linear feet they have room for.

Questions about modes

What freight modes can I post on Cargado?

Three: Full truckload, Partial truckload (LTL) and Power Only. You pick one in the Mode section of the same posting form, for Mexico and Canada freight, and carriers on the Cargado marketplace bid on it.

Is there a separate form for LTL freight?

No. LTL freight posts as a partial on the standard posting form. Pick Partial truckload (LTL) under Mode, then give carriers the weight, the Packaging Type and Count, and the Dimensions per unit. There is no freight class to enter.

Should I post light freight as a partial or a full truckload?

If the freight needs the whole trailer, post it as a Full truckload even if it is light. Post it as a Partial truckload (LTL) when it takes only part of the trailer and can share it.

What is power only on Cargado?

A power-only posting asks a carrier for the tractor and driver to pull a trailer that is yours or your shipper's. Pick Power Only under Mode, then a Power Only Type: Pre-loaded, Load-out or Tow-away.

Can I post a Potential as a partial or power only?

Yes. The mode and the posting type are separate choices. Any mode can post as a Load, a Lane, or a Potential Load or Lane for freight you haven't won yet.

Can a posting be both a partial and power only?

No. A partial truckload cannot also be power only. Pick the one mode that matches how the freight moves.

Do Cargado Market Rates cover partial and power-only freight?

No. Market Rates cover full truckload freight in dry van, reefer, open deck and straight truck. Partial and power-only freight still gets carrier bids when you post it.
