3PLs pay to access Cargado, which is what keeps it at no cost for you: more quality carriers on the platform make the marketplace better for everyone. It’s the modern alternative to legacy load boards, where carriers pay $50–$300+ a month.

How do I start getting relevant loads (and not get spammed)?

The key is tightening your preferences so Cargado surfaces the freight you actually want and not everything on the platform.

Tips to get started:

- Set your service areas to only the lanes and regions you actually run—coast to coast, across the border northbound/southbound, or into Mexico. Broad service areas result in noisy notifications.
- Switch general service area alerts to a daily digest.
- Create saved searches for your priority lanes and set those to notify immediately.
- BCC trucklist@cargado.com to post your trucks so matching freight finds you. This improves relevance beyond what broad alerts can do.

What kind of freight is on Cargado? Can I book spot loads and longer-term business?

Both. The marketplace includes spot loads (one-off shipments), recurring lanes and projects (repeating volume over time), and loads that 3PLs are actively quoting and working to win—coast to coast, across the border, and into Mexico.

That last category is worth paying attention to—those “potential” lanes often convert into real freight, and carriers who bid early position themselves for the business if it closes.

Are the 3PLs on here legit? How does vetting work?

Cargado isn’t an open marketplace. 3PLs are invited and vetted before they can post freight—FMCSA-integrated, MFA-secured, three references deep, with a one-strike policy and no fake profiles. Access is reference-based, and the team actively removes bad actors when carrier feedback flags an issue. After a match, you’re still free to run your own compliance and onboarding the way you normally would—NSC number, CVOR, CSNAP, CTPAT/FAST/PIP, bonded/in-bond, and secure-yard requirements included. The network is built around quality over quantity, so the 3PLs you see are ones the Cargado team has intentionally brought in.

Do I need a U.S. MC or DOT number to join?

Mexican carriers do not need U.S. authority just to join. Verification is based on the credentials that actually apply: SCT/SICT operating authority, RFC, insurance, and border credentials like CAAT or CTPAT where relevant. If your own tractors operate inside the U.S., the applicable U.S. authority, insurance, and driver eligibility rules still apply, and U.S. and Canadian carriers verify with their domestic authority.

Why does first contact stay inside the platform?

The initial contact, bid, and rate agreement happen in the platform, where every counterparty is identity-verified and the record is auditable. That protects both sides from fraud and double brokering. After you connect with a broker, ongoing work follows your direct broker-carrier contract and agreed workflow.
