Which border crossing should I put on a posting?

The crossing you set on a posting decides which carriers see it. Carriers who run one crossing often do not run another, so this single field is one of the biggest levers on whether a cross-border posting gets bids.

When the field shows up

Cargado only shows a Border Crossing section on a posting whose route it classifies as crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. A domestic move never shows the field at all, because there is nothing to set.

One crossing, and it is required

On a cross-border posting, Border Crossing is a single-select field: pick one crossing from the list. You cannot leave it blank. If you try to submit without one, Cargado blocks the posting with Border crossing is required.

You do not have to start from scratch. Cargado looks at your origin, destination and trailer type and marks the crossing it thinks fits best as (recommended) at the top of the list, and often fills it in for you automatically. You can change it to any other crossing before you post.

What it does to who sees your posting

A carrier's own profile lists the crossings they run, and that list quietly does two things. First, it is the default filter on their own freight search, so a carrier who only crosses at one bridge already has their search narrowed to it before they type anything. Second, Cargado's matching engine checks your posting's crossing against that same list before notifying them: if a carrier has set specific crossings and yours is not one of them, they are left out of the carriers Cargado notifies. A carrier who has not set any crossing preference is not filtered out on this check.

In practice, this means picking a crossing carriers on that lane do not run takes your posting out of their notifications, even if they would otherwise be a fit on equipment and location.

Getting it right

The recommended crossing Cargado suggests is a reasonable starting point, and for most lanes it is the one worth keeping. If you have reason to believe carriers on a lane run a different crossing than the one suggested, or you are not sure, message a few suggested carriers from the Coverage panel and ask which crossing they run before you commit to one that draws no bids. Crossing time and inspections

The same section asks for the Typical border crossing time. If the freight needs inspections at the border, choose + Edit Inspections and pick them under Inspections Required. The list covers U.S. and Mexican agencies, such as USDA, FDA, CBP agriculture, SENASICA and SADER, plus a tequila certificate of origin.
