Does the market rate include fuel?

Yes. The Low, Mid and High totals in the app include fuel. That does not mean tolls, border crossing charges or every accessorial are included.

In 3 steps

  1. Read Low, Mid and High as fuel-inclusive totals
  2. Add the fuel surcharge before you compare
  3. Check which currency you see

Yes. The Low, Mid and High totals you see on the Rates tab, and on a broker posting when the Market Rate card is available, include fuel. They are not linehaul-only rates.

Step 1: Read Low, Mid and High as fuel-inclusive totals

The app shows a fuel-inclusive total per load. The API provides suggested totals, per-mile figures when available, and a separate allInRates series. Fuel-inclusive means the fuel is in the number. It does not mean tolls, border crossing charges or every accessorial are.

Example data. Top: the whole app, dimmed, with the Rate range card of a Monterrey, NLE to Chicago, IL result highlighted and marked Step 1. Bottom, zoomed in: the lane header with 1,390 mi, Laredo, TX - Intl Bridge and Dry Van, then the Rate range card with Strong Confidence, View market boundaries, and Low $3,100, Mid $3,400, High $3,800. Badge 1 marks Low, Mid and High. Badge 2 marks the confidence label.
  1. Low, Mid and High: totals per load, fuel included.
  2. The confidence label: how much uncertainty there is around the median.

Step 2: Add the fuel surcharge before you compare

This matters when you are comparing our band against a rate quoted to you as linehaul plus a fuel surcharge. Add the surcharge to that quote before you put it next to our number, or Cargado will look more expensive than it is.

Step 3: Check which currency you see

In the app you can price a lookup in USD, MXN or CAD. It can suggest one based on the lane, and you can switch. The API returns USD unless your request asks for another currency.

Good to know

  • What the three numbers are: Low is the 25th percentile of the market data behind the lookup, Mid is the median, and High is the 75th percentile: a quarter of that data sits at or above it.
  • A guide, not a guarantee: the band and its confidence label are a guide, not a guarantee.
