Market Rates shows carriers where the marketplace has been bidding a lane, so you can price a bid with the market in front of you. For carriers, Market Rates is in beta and free while in beta. You find it on the Rates tab, where a banner reads "Available free for a limited time".

Step 1: Find the Rates tab

When Market Rates is on for your company, a Rates tab with a New badge appears in the menu on the left (at the bottom of the screen on a phone). If you do not see it, it is not turned on for your company yet.

The Rates page as a carrier sees it before the first lookup, with numbered callouts. 1 Rates tab, New badge: Shows when Market Rates is on for your company; 2 Free while in beta: The banner reads: Available free for a limited time; 3 Enter the lane: Trailer, origin, destination and currency, then Get rates; 4 Past lookups list here: Your company's past lookups replace this card.

Step 2: Enter the lane

Pick a trailer from Select trailer type, then choose the Origin and Destination from the suggestions. Places in the United States, Mexico and Canada are supported. On a lane that crosses the Mexican border, choose a crossing from Select border crossing. The recommended ones are at the top and one is already selected.

Step 3: Pick a currency and get rates

Choose USD, MXN or CAD, then click Get rates.

Step 4: Read the band

You get three numbers for the latest week:

  • Low (p25): a quarter of recent bids were at or below this.
  • Mid (p50): the median bid.
  • High (p75): a quarter of recent bids were at or above this.

The figures are a total per load and include fuel. A confidence label (Strong Confidence, Medium Confidence or Lower Confidence) tells you how steady the bidding behind the band is, and History: Trailing 12 weeks shows how the lane has moved. See How to read a market rate for more.

A result for Monterrey, NLE to Chicago, IL, 1,390 miles via Laredo, TX - Intl Bridge, Dry Van, Strong Confidence. Outlined in blue: Low $3,100, Mid $3,300, High $3,500. Below: Post freight based on this lookup and the History: Trailing 12 weeks chart.
Low, Mid and High are the 25th, 50th and 75th percentiles; the chart shows the last 12 weeks.

Step 5: Use it when you bid

A bid near the Mid is in line with what other carriers have been bidding on that lane. A bid well above the High is priced above most recent bids. Your own costs still come first. The band tells you where the market is, not what your truck needs to earn.

Tip: everyone at your company sees the same list of past lookups under the form, so a dispatcher can reuse a lookup a teammate already ran.

Important: a lane can come back with We don't have enough data on this lane. That means too few recent bids to publish a band, not that there is no freight.
