How long does my posting stay live, and why did it come down?

Loads come down when their appointment passes, Lanes after their End Date. A bidding deadline can end Lanes and Potentials sooner.

A posting comes down when its own dates run out, when the time to answer bids after its bidding deadline ends, or when you take it down. A Load also comes down when you accept a carrier. Which date counts depends on the posting type.

How long each posting type stays up

  • Load: until the earliest pickup or delivery appointment with a set time has passed. For a set time, that is the time. For a window, the end of the window. For an appointment still to be set, the end of its possible range. Stops with no set time do not count. A Load has no bidding deadline.
  • Potential Load: the same appointment rule, plus a required New bids allowed until date, at most two weeks out.
  • Lane: through the End Date of its Shipping time frame. It comes down the day after. You can also set New bids allowed until under Advanced bidding options.
  • Potential Lane: through its End Date, plus a required New bids allowed until date, at most two weeks out.

Accepting a bid takes a Load or Potential Load down. A Lane or Potential Lane stays up, so you can book more than one carrier on it.

The shipping time frame is the project, not the posting window

On a Lane or Potential Lane, Shipping time frame is how long the freight will move: the whole project. It is not how long you want to collect bids.

If you enter one week because you want bids for a week, two things go wrong. Carriers see a one-week project, not the longer business you have. And the posting comes down after that week. Enter the full project term. If you want to stop taking bids sooner, use New bids allowed until.

What happens when bidding closes

After New bids allowed until, the posting is closed to new bids but not yet down. You can still accept, counter or reject the bids you already have:

  • On a Lane, for up to 7 more days.
  • On a Potential Load or Potential Lane, for up to 3 more days.

Then the posting comes down. It comes down sooner if its own dates run out first. When it comes down, bids nobody answered are closed.

A reminder may come first

If a posting still has bids nobody has answered, the person who posted it may get a reminder before it comes down. Do not wait for it. Answer bids before the deadline. See Why does my posting say Respond?

Get it back up

A posting that came down is not deleted. Open the Freight tab and choose All freight to find it.

  1. If its pickup, delivery or End Date has already passed, choose Edit freight details and update the dates first. Otherwise it comes down again right away. On a live posting, Edit freight details asks you to take the posting down first.
  2. Then choose Post from its menu and set new bidding dates if it asks for them. Post shows only for freight with no active posting and no match.

Tip: You cannot push back New bids allowed until on a live posting. Take it down and post it again with a new date. Instant Responses are the exception: you can change those while the posting stays live. See What happens when I set a target rate?
