Why you cannot bid on a posting

What blocks a bid, what does not, and what the generic message actually means.

If the bid button is unavailable, or you see "You are not authorized to bid on this posting", one of a handful of rules is in the way. The message on screen is deliberately vague, because some of the reasons are the broker's business and not ours to publish. This article tells you what the list is, so you can usually work out which one it is.

The reasons that come from your own profile

  • The lane needs an authority you have not given us. A load that touches the United States needs a DOT number on your profile. Mexico and Canada lanes have their own equivalents.
  • Your authority is not in the right status. We check the operating authority on the government record, and an inactive or revoked one blocks bidding until it is resolved.
  • Domestic freight needs a domestic carrier. A load that moves only inside the United States, only inside Canada, or only inside Mexico can be bid on only by a carrier based in that country. This is cabotage law, not a Cargado rule, and there is no way around it.

If it is the United States authority rule, you will get a specific message saying so. It suggests asking a partner carrier who holds US authority to bid on the load for you, and that is a normal way to work here.

The reasons that come from the broker

  • The broker has blocked your company on that posting, or across all their freight.
  • The posting is only visible to carriers already in the broker's network.
  • The broker already has an incumbent on that lane and has excluded them from bidding again.

We will not tell you which broker did what. If this is the reason, the posting simply will not accept a bid from you.

What does not block a bid

This surprises people. Trailer type, CTPAT, FAST, PIP and AEO certifications, bonding, cargo insurance limits, hazmat endorsement and your stated service area do not stop you from bidding. If your profile is missing something the broker asked for, Cargado flags it and asks you to confirm before you bid, but the decision is the broker's, not a hard gate.

So if you have the equipment and the crossing and you are still blocked, it is one of the rules above, not a requirements mismatch.

A different message

If you see "You are not allowed to perform this action", that is not about the posting. That is your account losing permission, most often because your membership at your company was deactivated. Ask an admin at your company to check, or email us.

We can see exactly which rule fired. Email carriers@cargado.com with your company name and a link to the posting, and we will tell you which one it is and what fixes it.
