Post a lane you already cover without your current carrier seeing it

List your current carrier under Incumbents on a lane posting. They won't see it or bid, so you can test the market without them knowing.

Add the carrier already running the lane under Incumbents when you post a lane or a potential lane. They will not see the posting in their feed and cannot bid on it, so you can test the market without your current carrier knowing.

Why post a lane you already cover

  • Check what other carriers would charge on the lane.
  • Line up backup carriers before your current one runs short.
  • Find capacity if the shipper offers you more volume.

Step 1: Start a lane or potential lane

Choose Post a lane or Post a potential lane. The Incumbents section only appears on these two types. A load has no Incumbents section. To hide a load from a carrier, use Block Carriers.

Step 2: Add your incumbents

Scroll to Incumbents near the bottom of the form. In Incumbent Carriers, type at least three characters of the carrier's name or an identifier. Each result shows the carrier's DOT and MC numbers when they are on file, and its city, so you can pick the right company. Add as many carriers as run the lane for you.

The search only finds carriers already on Cargado. A carrier that is not on Cargado cannot see your posting anyway.

Step 3: Save and post

Choose Save and continue, then post as usual. Your incumbents stay attached to that lane.

What the incumbent sees

The posting does not appear in their feed and they cannot bid on it. They are not listed in your Suggested Carriers for it either. Cargado does not tell them why.

Change the list later

Open the lane and choose Edit freight details. An active posting comes down first. Update Incumbents, save, and post it again.

Incumbents or Block Carriers?

Both keep a carrier from seeing and bidding on that freight, including when you post it again. The difference is what the carrier is to you.

  • Incumbents: a carrier you are happy with that already runs this lane. Lanes and potential lanes only.
  • Block Carriers: a carrier you do not want on this freight. Every posting type.

To keep a carrier off all of your freight, not just one posting, see Block a carrier from your freight.
